Worship Service for the Week of May 24th, 2026
Scripture Texts: John 15:1-17
Sermon: The Vine
This Sunday we come to John 15, and with it, the second half of Jesus’ last lesson. As He takes His disciples outside the Upper Room and into the streets of Jerusalem, Jesus shifts His focus from how to cultivate private communion with Him to how to bear witness publicly in the world. What’s the secret to bearing fruit faithfully in a world that is often hostile to Christianity? According to Jesus, it’s abiding in Him, the true vine. Join us as Michael Bouterse unpacks what abiding means and how we can represent Jesus effectively in our twenty-first century world.

Discussion Questions
Icebreaker: Jesus describes His Father as a gardener (John 15:1). If you were a gardener, what would you plant in your garden (fruits, veggies, flowers?) and why?
- Imagine you’re a non-Christian living in America today. What impression would you have of Christianity based on the words and actions of the American church? What lessons can Christians draw from this about how we can represent Jesus faithfully to our culture?
- Jesus speaks of the importance of abiding in him (15:4), in his love (15:9), and in his words (8:31 ESV; cf. 15:7). What do you think it looks like to do that?
- When was a time God “pruned” you, and how did it result in greater fruit in your life?
