Call Team Affirmation Vote
Series: Pastoral Transition Updates - 2025
The votes are in and our slate of seven team members overwhelmingly passed 44-5. The five "no votes" each graciously shared a very reasonable concern about the demographic makeup of the team. If any of you shared that concern, please see the response below one of our Elders shared with a person who also had that concern.
Call Team Members: Mark Sims, Ron Richards, Amanda Pearsall, Hannah Churness, Mark Hooper, Michael Schmitz, Trielle Alstead
The below was emailed to a member with concerns about the call team not fully representing the demographics of One Hope.
Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for your transparency and thoughtful comments along with your call team vote. You identified one of the issues we really wrestled with as an elder team. Finding the right balance of people was daunting. None of us went into the process with a perfect formula, and none of us walked away feeling like we "nailed it." While we feel good about the spiritual maturity and experience of those selected, we know that the grace of God and the movement of the Holy Spirit will ultimately lead and guide OHC to our next pastor!
I can tell you that the elders talked (at length) about representation of older, wise women. There were a lot of factors to juggle in assembling the slate, including a limited number of names put forward in nomination. But we acknowledge the demographic gaps, and our fervent prayer for the call team is that "the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him." (Eph. 1:17)
OHC is blessed to have so many capable women, many of whom date back to the foundation of our church. I am confident they will continue to uplift us in a rich variety of roles -- as elders, teachers, worship leaders, prayer warriors, mothers, daughters, and so much more. I also hope they participate in the two congregational listening sessions!
